The Chinese market is emerging quickly as anytime you turn on the news it seems like China is expanding in some market or all you have to do is travel to any local store such as Walmart and a good majority of what you buy was made entirely or partially in China.
This is not by mistake as China has been working on their manufacturing industry for decades now always hitting a snag or set back. Recently China has gone from a poor manufacturing country to a country that is prospering by establishing somewhat of a middle class and even an upper-middle class.
It is also exciting for those who are doing business already in China and have experience such as many financial firms in the US. I was looking at a NY Times article about the great brain drain where it talks about how we are loosing top talent to China such as a guy who impressed me named Nick Topjian as well as a women from the now defunct Bear Stearns who also impressed me but I couldn't find her profile online. These people are our top talent and they are now exploding in the emerging Chinese market which doesn't seem to be slowing down anytime soon.
I guess what we need to take from this article in the NY Times from last year is that we can no longer just take for granted that we are the top at everything and we need to get back to what made us great and that is hard work in school and teaching ourselves skills fit for this high tech world outside of schools. If we take for granted that we will always be the large powerhouse for business then we may see it slip away completely in our lifetime.
